Principals As Technology Leaders (PATL)
To help school administrators effectively manage the technology
resources at their schools, PEP offers the Principals as Technology
Leaders (PATL) program. Thanks to a Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation Leadership Challenge Grant, we are able to offer
eight PATL programs this year. Each program will accommodate
thirty-six participants.
PATL's goal is specifically and primarily to help school
administrators lead their schools and districts to high quality
use of technology for teaching and learning, and only secondarily
to improve computer proficiencies. Because the program is
designed to meet the needs of participants with a wide range
of technology skills, all principals and superintendents are
encouraged to attend. Laptop computers will be issued to participants
on the first day of the program. Ownership of the computer
will transfer from PEP to the school districts of participants
who successfully complete the program.
Principals who participate in PATL will be required to administer
TAGLIT, a set of on-line technology assessments, at their
schools before reporting for their first two-day session.
The assessment results will form the basis of some elements
of the PATL curriculum and also will be used by the Gates
Foundation to evaluate its grant program.
We anticipate great interest in this program. We encourage
you to apply early if you wish to attend this year. Click
